Dear Parents and Students,

School Community Council Elections

We are currently accepting Declaration of Candidacy forms for our School Community Council.  We have 3 open positions this year.  We would love for you to get involved.  Here is the link to the form: https://schools.graniteschools.org/wasatchjr/files/2018/07/Declaration-of-Candidacy-for-CC.pdf           .  The due date is August 31st by 3:00pm.  The role of the Council is to appropriate Land Trust Funds, assist with the school improvement plan and many other vital issues.  We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:45am for an hour.  Please come get involved in an important aspect of Wasatch Jr. High.

Orientation

Orientation for 6th graders and any new student to Wasatch will occur on the first day of school.  All 6th graders and any new 7th or 8thgrader will meet in the auditorium at the beginning of school on the first day.  We will have a short presentation followed by breaking out into smaller groups to learn more about the ins and outs of Wasatch.  We will be covering the following information:  How lunches work, clubs and sports, Locker practice, tour of school, how to use the planner and they will receive a Wasatch t-shirt.

Back to School Night

New this year we will be having a Back to School Night on August 29th 6-8pm.  There are 4 purposes for this evening: (1) for parents to meet their students’ teachers and ask questions of them.  (2) A 15min presentation of Proficiency Based Grading (PBG) in the Auditorium.  Many of our teachers in our school will be grading using this method in preparation for implementation for all junior highs in Granite District the 2019-2020 school year.  (3) Teach students and parents how to access Canvas and Gradebook.  (4) Prepare you for a new Parent/teacher conference format (Student Led Conferences).

Fall Sports

The fall sports are: Soccer, for both boys and girls and X-Country (long distance running –1.5miles) for both boys and girls.  Both will begin on August 27th after school.  X-Country will consist of 4-5 meets and a District Championship meet.  Soccer will be intramurals for 3 weeks in which any student that wants to play can.  After 3 the weeks, an All-star team, boys and girls, will be chosen in which they will play 6 games against other junior highs in Granite District.

The Weeks Ahead

8/14—Schedules and lockers for 8th grade- 8-11:30am --7th grade- 12:30-4pm

8/15—Schedules and lockers for 6th grade- 8-11:30am—Open for anyone else—12:30-4pm

8/20—First Day of School—Orientation for 6th grade and new 7th and 8th graders –meet in Auditorium

8/27—Soccer and X-Country sports begin 3:00pm on North Field

8/28—School pictures for the yearbook

8/29—Back to School Night—6-8pm

9/3—Labor Day—No School

PTSA Meetings

Board Meetings are generally held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 9:30am in the Wasatch Jr. High Conference Room.   Please check the calendar on the website to confirm the dates.  The meeting is open to anyone wishing to attend.
